"His Banner Over Me"

After I had created a computer-accurate Temple Layout (see previous image) that seemed to strikingly pinpoint the piercing wounds of Christ, I thought it would be interesting to see if the Shroud of Turin, believed to be the burial cloth of our Lord Jesus Christ, might substantiate my hypothesis. I found some images of the Shroud online, and superimposed them over the Temple. I was stunned to find that the wounds matched perfectly with both the Outer and Inner Gates of the Temple! Notice the blood stains at the feet, the wrists (imagine them extended for crucifixion), and especially his right side (as he faces you). One can also make out the blood on His brow caused by the Crown of Thorns, which neatly superimposes over the building that may represent the Hall of Judgment, where Solomon (the son of David) wore his kingly crown on the Judgment Throne to decide legal disputes. And the Man's body is covered with some 120 wounds, presumably caused by Roman scourging, which make me think of the many recessed windows that appear throughout the entire Temple Complex. Personally, I would be very surprised if this were all coincidental.

NOTE: Hover your mouse over the above image to see the shroud in photo-negative. The first photographer to take pictures of the shroud in 1898 was so stunned to see this, when he started developing the negatives, that he almost dropped the plates in shock.

Having heard that carbon dating had cast some suspicion on its origins, I had never given much thought to the Shroud of Turin before this study of the Tabernacle and Temple. But when I saw this striking relationship to the Temple, it occurred to me that I had better give the Shroud another look. The more I researched the Shroud on the Internet, the more I became convinced that this relic is the authentic burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth, who is the crucified and risen Messiah.

The Church has not made this an obligatory article of faith, so each person is free to examine the facts and decide for himself on the matter. As for me, I believe, along with Pope John XXIII, that "the finger of God is here." Here are a few sites that I found particularly helpful:

Might the Merciful God be providing help to modern skeptics, with their insatiable desire for "scientific proof"? Possibly....

It is at least my hope and prayer that some "doubting Thomases" will be encouraged to see that faith can coexist with reason. Think about it. Doesn't reason suggest to our intellects that a Divine Intelligence clearly foresaw, in excruciating detail, this pivotal event in human history--the crucifixion of His only Begotten Son? While I could list several, below are two Old Testament prophecies that clearly prove His divine foreknowledge:

Psalm 22:16-17
"Yea, dogs are round about me;
a company of evildoers encircle me;
they have pierced my hands and feet,
I can count all my bones.
They stare and gloat over me;
they divide my garments among them,
and for my raiment they cast lots."

Isaiah 52:13 - 53:13
"Behold, My Servant shall prosper,
He shall be exalted and lifted up.
and shall be very high.
As many were astonished at Him,
His appearance was so marred,
beyond human semblance,
and His form beyond the sons of men,
so shall He startle many nations;
kings shall shut their mouths because of Him;
for that which has not been told them
they shall see,
and that which they have not heard
they shall understand.

Who has believd what we have heard?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
For He grew up before Him like a young plant,
and like a root out of dry ground;
He had no form or comeliness
that we should look at Him,
and no beauty that we should desire Him.
He was despised and rejected by men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
He was despised,
and we esteemed Him not.

Surely He has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed Him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
upon Him was the chastisement
that made us whole,
and with His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on Him
the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed,
and He was afflicted,
yet He opened not His mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is dumb,
so He opened not His mouth.
By oppression and judgment
He was taken away;
and as for His generation, who considered
that He was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of My people?
And they made His grave with the wicked
and with a rich man in His death,
although He had done no violence,
and there was no deceit in His mouth.

Yet is was the will of the Lord to bruise Him;
He has put Him to grief.
When He makes Himself an offering for sin,
He shall see His offspring,
He shall prolong His days;
the will of the Lord shall prosper in His hand;
He shall see the fruit of the travail of His soul
and be satisfied;
by His knowledge shall the Righteous One, My Servant,
make many to be accounted righteous;
and He shall bear their iniquities.
Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
and He shall divide the spoil with the strong;
because He poured out His soul to death,
and was numbered with the transgressors;
yet He bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.

I pray that this image will help to deepen your appreciation for and contemplation of the Sacred and Adorable Wounds of Jesus Christ. These are the gates of salvation and the windows of contemplation. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, and His lovingkindness is everlasting!
